ending usage

The singular Nominative Case form is the dictionary form that you should memorize when you learn a new noun. Most masculine nouns end with a consonant, so there is no ending.
There are a fair number of feminine nouns that also end with a consonant. To decline them you should use feminine endings in singular and plural number. I advise you to learn every noun together with its gender, so that you know which endings to use.
