Nominative Case (Mianownik) - Usage

Subject of the sentence

Sentence subjects use the Nominative Case.
What is the subject of a sentence?
Examples
Nasi rodzice ciężko pracują.- Our parents work hard.
nasi rodzice Npl — subject
Marek uczy się języka polskiego.- Mark learns the Polish language.
Marek Nsg — subject
Drzewa rosną w lesie.- Trees grow in the forest.
drzewa Npl — subject
Sklepy są zamknięte w niedzielę.- The shops are closed on Sunday.

Pogoda w górach jest nieprzewidywalna.- The weather on the mountain is unpredictable.

Identifying phrases

The Nominative Case is used after It is, This is, That is, These are, and Those are.
Example
To jest poczta.- It / This / That is a post office.
poczta - Nominative Case
To jest moja dziewczyna.- It / This / That is my girlfriend.
moja dziewczyna - Nominative Case
To są książki.- These / Those are books.
książki - Nominative Case
To są moi uczniowie.- These / Those are my students.
