Nominative Case (Mianownik) - Feminine Singular Nouns

Feminine singular nouns in Nominative Case take the following endings:

Endings -a -

The - symbol indicates that there is no ending.

The singular Nominative Case form corresponds to the dictionary form. This form must be memorized.

Examples

Feminine Singular Nominative Case	English
książka	a book
kobieta	a woman
lampa	a lamp
chmura	a cloud
twarz	a face
myśl	a thought
kość	a bone
podpowiedź	a hint

Some feminine nouns end with -i, for example gospodyni and pani.

Examples

Feminine Singular Nominative Case	English
gospodyni	a housekeeper
pani	a lady

Some masculine nouns take the -a ending. These nouns use feminine endings in the singular and masculine endings in the plural.

Examples

Masculine Singular Nominative Case	English
mężczyzna	a man
kolega	a colleague
kierowca	a driver
