Nominative Case (Mianownik) - Introduction

What is a Case?
The Nominative Case (Mianownik) is the first Polish case and describes the subject of the sentence?. The subject performs the action.
Example
Samochód jest w garażu.- The car is in the garage.
In the sentence above, the word samochód appears in the Nominative Case.
When learning new nouns, always learn the Nominative Case form. The Nominative Case form is the dictionary form of nouns.
Sentences and Their Corresponding Questions in the Nominative Case
Each case has its own interrogative words that it answers. The Nominative Case answers the questions kto? and co?. Knowing the interrogative words of a case enables asking questions about that part of the sentence. The following examples illustrate this concept.

Dzieci idą do szkoły.- The children go to school.
Kto idzie do szkoły?- Who goes to school?
dzieci - Nominative Case
co? (what?)
To jest mój dom.- This is my house.
Co to jest?- What is it?
mój dom - Nominative Case
