Accusative Case (Biernik) - Introduction

What is a Case?
The Accusative Case (Biernik) is the fourth case in the Polish language. Generally, it is used for the direct object that the subject acts upon.
Example
Dziecko daje mamie książkę. - A child gives a book to his mother.
dziecko - the subject
książkę - the direct object in the Accusative Case
Each case has its own interrogative words that it answers. The Accusative Case answers kogo? and co?.
  • kogo?- refers to people
  • co?- refers to things, animals, and abstractions
The interrogative words of a case can be used to form a question about that part of the sentence. The following examples illustrate this concept.
Examples
kogo?
Widzę sąsiada na balkonie.- I see a neighbour on the balcony.
Kogo widzę na balkonie?- Who do I see on the balcony?
co?
Dostałem kieszonkowe.- I got pocket money.
Co dostałem?- What did I get?
