Demonstrative Pronouns (Zaimki Wskazujące)

What are demonstrative pronouns?

Demonstrative Pronouns are the words that you usually put before a noun to indicate what thing you are talking about. Examples of demonstrative pronouns in English: this, that, these, those.

Variants of demonstrative pronouns in Polish

In the Polish language, Demonstrative Pronouns have different forms depending on the number, gender and case of the noun. Also - like in the English language - there are different demonstrative pronouns depending on how far an object is. Below you can see tables with all the possible forms.
This / These
These two words are much more complicated in the Polish language. Their form depends on the number, gender and case of the noun.
singular (this)plural (these)

Nominativetentatocite
Genitivetegotejtegotychtych
Dativetemutejtemutymtym
Accusativetegotętotychte

Locativetymtejtymtychtych
That / Those
When talking about an object, which is far away we use different words – like in English. Fortunately, they are quite straightforward if you already know the forms from the previous table. Simply add tam- on the beginning of each word.
Exception
Be careful with the one exception in singular feminine form for Accusative Case. The correct form is tamtą - not tamtę.
