Verbs followed by Genitive Case
Genitive Case is used among others after the following verbs:

| potrzebować | to need |
| próbować imperf | to try |
| spróbować perf | to try |
| pytać imperf | to ask |
| szukać imperf | to search |

wymagać + Genitive Case
Examples
| Niektórzy rodzice wymagają bezwzględnego posłuszeństwa od swoich dzieci. | Some parents require their children to be unquestionably obedient. |
| Nauka gry na instrumencie wymaga ciężkiej pracy. | Learning to play an instrument requires hard work. |
| Gra w badmintona wymaga szybkiej reakcji. | Playing badminton requires a quick response. |
uczyć się + Genitive Case
Examples
| Dziewczynka uczy się wiersza na pamięć. | The girl is learning a poem by heart. |
| Dzieci uczą się dobrych manier. | Children learn good manners. |
nauczyć się + Genitive Case
Examples
| W dzieciństwie nauczyłem się języka angielskiego. | In childhood I learned English. |
| Czy nauczyliście się ostatniego rozdziału z podręcznika? | Have you learned the last chapter of the textbook? |
nie mieć + Genitive Case
When the verb mieć is negated it requires the Genitive Case.
Examples
| Nie mam czasu. | I don't have time. |
| Nie mieliśmy pieniędzy na naprawę samochodu. | We didn't have money to repair the car. |
| Nie mam twojej książki. | I don't have your book. |
Otherwise it requires the Accusative Case.
Examples
| Mam tę książkę, o którą prosiłeś. | I have the book you asked me for. |
bać się + Genitive Case
Examples
| Boję się pająków. | I'm afraid of spiders. |
| Dzikie zwierzęta boją się ludzi i samochodów. | Wild animals are afraid of people and cars. |
brakować + Genitive Case
The verb brakować requires the Genitive Case for the noun describing who is missing something.
Examples
| Brakuje mi Ciebie. | I miss you. |
| Zabrakło nam kilku punktów. | We ran out of several points. |
The verb brakować requires the Accusative Case for the noun describing what is missing.
Examples
| Brakuje mi Ciebie. | I miss you. |
| Zabrakło nam kilku punktów. | We ran out of several points. |
bronić + Genitive Case
Examples
| Rycerze bronią ostatniej fortecy. | The knights defend the last fortress. |
| Zawsze bronię swoich racji. | I always defend my point. |
chcieć + Genitive Case
Examples
| Ja chcę ostatniego batona! | I want the last bar! |
| Obywatele chcą obniżenia podatków. | Citizens want a reduction in taxes. |
napić się + Genitive Case
Examples
| Chcesz napić się herbaty? | Do you want to drink a cup of tea? |
| Napiliśmy się piwa. | We had beer. |
oczekiwać + Genitive Case
Examples
| Oczekuję raportu do jutra! | I expect a report by tomorrow! |
| Oczekujemy silnych opadów dzisiaj w nocy. | We expect heavy rainfall tonight. |
pilnować + Genitive Case
Examples
| Pies pilnuje domu. | The dog is guarding the house. |
| Policja pilnuje porządku w mieście. | The police keeps order in the city. |
potrzebować + Genitive Case
Examples
| Potrzebuję twojej pomocy. | I need your help. |
| Będziemy potrzebować waszej zgody. | We will need your consent. |
próbować + Genitive Case
Examples
| Próbowałeś kiedyś zielonej herbaty? | Have you ever tried green tea? |
| Próbowaliśmy już wszystkich sposobów. | We have already tried all ways. |
spróbować + Genitive Case
Examples
| Chcesz spróbować mojej zupy? | Do you want to try my soup? |
| Spróbujemy innych drzwi. | We will try another door. |
pytać + Genitive Case
Examples
| Nie pytam się was o zdanie. | I am not asking you for your opinion. |
| Pytałem twojej siostry dokąd idzie. | I asked your sister where she was going. |
The verb pytać also accepts the Accusative Case.

szukać + Genitive Case
Examples
| Spokojnie, nie szukam problemów. | Relax, I'm not looking for problems. |
| Mój brat szuka pracy sezonowej. | My brother is looking for a seasonal job. |
słuchać + Genitive Case
Examples
| Słucham muzyki klasycznej. | I listen to classical music. |
| Uczniowie nie słuchają nauczycieli. | Students don't listen to teachers. |
